Township is a rural area in the western part of Benzie County in the lower peninsula
of Michigan. It has two quaint villages within its parameter, Beulah and Benzonia.
The Village of Beulah is located on the eastern shore of beautiful Crystal Lake with
restaurants, shopping and a beautiful public beach. The Village of Benzonia is located
just to the south on US-31 and also offers restaurants, shopping, banking and resorts.
Crystal Lake is one of the largest lakes in Michigan. Nine miles long and three miles
wide, this lake boasts 9,711 acres in size and up to 175 feet deep. Great fishing
and boating are enjoyed on this fresh, clean lake.
Benzonia Township, whose name is from Latin and Greek words meaning good air or
good area (zone), offers a many, many outdoor areas of entertainment. Hunting,
fishing, skiing, boating, hiking, snowmobiling and the list goes on.
Benzonia Township is located seven miles from the harbor-town of Frankfort and Lake
Michigan. Drive around the shore of Crystal Lake to visit Point Betsie Lighthouse
on the shores of Lake Michigan. This lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses
in the country.
The Betsie River meanders through Benzonia Township offering canoeing and great fishing.
Big and Little Platte Lakes have shoreline in Benzonia Township as well. Great recreational
waterways to visit.
Memorial Park, located on South Street and Grace Roads in Benzonia Township, offers
ball fields for practice and games, soccer fields, a large picnic area with playground,
and a dog park for our furry friends. This 30-acre park has become very popular during
our spring, summer and fall seasons. Please make reservations for large groups. WHILE
WE CURRENTLY DONT CHARGE FOR USE OF THE PARK, WE GLADLY ACCEPT DONATIONS FOR YOUR
LARGE GROUPS. See here for more about Memorial Park.
